Keyword Cannibalization
Multiple pages competing for the same keyword hurt all of them. Here's the merge-and-redirect framework.
What it means
Two or more URLs on your site target the same keyword and intent. Google can't tell which to rank, so it ranks neither well.
Why it matters
Cannibalization fragments link authority and click signals across pages. Consolidating to one strong page consistently lifts rankings.
How to fix it
- Identify cannibalized terms via Search Console (queries with multiple URLs).
- Pick the strongest URL as canonical.
- Merge content from the others into it.
- 301 redirect the losers.

Frequently asked questions
Is internal competition always bad?
Not always, different intent (informational vs commercial) can coexist. Same-intent duplication is the problem.
