Free Keyword Density Checker
See exactly which words and phrases dominate any page. Spot keyword stuffing, missing target terms, and content depth gaps in seconds.
How to use keyword density data
Density is a diagnostic, not a target. Use it three ways:
- Detect stuffing. Any term over 4% on a 500+ word page reads unnaturally and risks a manual action.
- Find topic gaps. If your page is about "domain authority" but the phrase appears once, Google won't see relevance.
- Confirm topical coverage. The top 2-grams should map to subtopics a competitor's ranking page also covers.

Frequently Asked Questions
What's the ideal keyword density?
There's no magic number, but 0.5%–2.5% for your primary keyword is a safe, natural range. Anything above 3–4% starts to look like keyword stuffing, which Google penalises. Focus on covering related terms (LSI) rather than repeating one keyword.
Why look at 2-word and 3-word phrases?
Modern search is phrase-based. Google's BERT and MUM understand multi-word entities. A page targeting 'free SEO tools' should naturally surface that exact 2-word and 3-word phrase, not just 'SEO' on its own.
Does this ignore stopwords?
Yes. We strip common stopwords (the, and, is, of, etc.) and short tokens before counting, so your density numbers reflect meaningful terms, not filler.
Is keyword density still a ranking factor?
Not directly, but it's a useful proxy for topical relevance. If your page is about 'backlink checkers' but the phrase appears once, you have a relevance problem. Density audits surface those gaps.
